WWOOFer Program
Sacred Paths Farm is set in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, surrounded by trees and a rural area known as Apple Hill. We have 14 acres, mainly Christmas Trees and a Sequoia grove, though 2 acres consist of our vegetable and herb growing area and 2 houses & yard. A quiet area, though walking distance to main HWY and bus stop. Main town of Placerville is 7 minutes away. We grow many varieties of vegetable, flowers and medicinal herbs. We practice organic and bio-intensive growing practices. We work 4-6 Farmer’s Markets per week. We have CSA program. This is our 3rd season doing markets and CSA, and it is growing rapidly. Our growing season is from May through October, maybe November, depending on the weather. We host a large music/organic Harvest Festival in October (5th year) to celebrate our vision (see website), in which we need a lot of volunteer assistance. We would love if volunteers are interested in staying most of the growing season, though we are open to smaller lengths of time of stay, if that is what is most conducive to the volunteer, from May-October. We have 2 trailers available, one sleeps 1 or a couple and the other sleeps 2 shared bunking. We also have plenty of land available for camping that is private and close to facilities. We have a house that is open to use bathroom facilities with hot water & a kitchen for shared meals, and of course, we provide the meals. We have children and would appreciate assistance with child care alternating with farm work, if you like. Matthew is a woodworker and you may have an opportunity to learn. Work 6 to 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. There is a 2 week trial & training period. Depending on length of stay, volunteers may get to work at some markets. Town is 7 minutes away, walking distance to the local transportation (bus). The Cozmic Café is the “hot spot” in town, with live music every weekend…great food (local and/or organic teas and coffee too). We live in what’s called Apple Hill which consists of many farms of all sorts to visit, some are walking distance. Close to the American River (white water rafting, kayaking), mountain trails and biking, lakes: plenty of outdoor places to go nearby! We usually have weekly bar-b-que’s with other local organic farmers, keeping our spirits inspired and getting some fun time when it’s the “busy season”. We travel from farm to farm, so volunteers will be welcome to join and meet other “organic” people. We also have an above ground pool to cool off in ~ believe us, you’ll be grateful in mid summer. Yes, we will pick volunteers up at airports or bus stations and the like. English spoken. Yes, children are welcome only if the volunteer bringing the child(ren) is volunteering for childcare responsibilities. Dogs are welcome, we have a sweet Great Pyrenees of 2 years old, who would love the company, if your dog is friendly to children, too. Being an organic farm, we can accommodate vegetarians, although we are not, we do eat mainly local grass fed meat. Volunteers will have an opportunity to learn about medicinal herbs, for we specialize in herbal products and have a growing business in that field. You can learn about the properties and botanical usage of many herbs that we grow on the farm; learning how to harvest, dry and prepare herbal medicines such as teas, oils, salves, tinctures, honeys and vinegars. We sell our herbal products on-line, farmer’s markets, and at local businesses in our area. References are required. Apply here.
